Get Ready for the Races

If you are familiar with Naples then you have probably heard of the Swamp Buggy Races, if you are not familiar, get ready to learn about one of the most unique events that takes place here in Naples, Florida. Ed Frank, who was born in 1902 in Washington State, did some travelling with his family as a small boy and ended up in Naples. Ed was so fond of the area that he chose to purchase property on the Tamiami Trail and with the help of his three brothers, the first garage in Naples was built. While Naples was being constructed into a city, Ed was one of the believers that Naples would make it big someday so he invested in the city and began to buy property. Ed had a passion for the outdoors and loved tinkering with cars. When those two passions were fused together, the Swamp Buggy Races were created. In 1949 the first Swamp Buggy Race took place and it has continued to be a long standing tradition. Since the first race, competitors have fixed up cars to withstand the conditions of the famous Mile O’ Mud track. The figure-eight track is flooded with water and quickly turns into a muddy mess. There are few events in town that are this unique or as much fun to attend. So clear your calendars and get ready for the races!
